Saint Gregory the Great

Benedictine monk turned pope — Servant of the servants of God. Sent Augustine to Christianize England, reformed the Roman liturgy, codified Gregorian chant, and wrote the first biography of Saint Benedict. His writings on pastoral care shaped the medieval priesthood for centuries.
